“I hope and pray that someone, sometime, will found a memorial Mother’s Day commemorating her for the matchless service she renders to humanity in every field of life,” Anna Jarvis was quoted as saying in 1876 after listening to her mom recite the next prayer after instructing a Sunday School lesson.
In 1941, Woodrow Wilson signed a proclamation declaring the second Sunday in May as a nationwide vacation in honor of moms.
